Report: Penn State Football Running Back Corey Smith Enters Transfer Portal

Penn State football running back Corey Smith has entered the transfer portal, according to ESPN’s Max Olson. Smith leaves Happy Valley with three years of eligibility.

The redshirt freshman from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, saw the field in six games in 2025, only recording rushing stats in the opener against Nevada and Pinstripe Bowl against Clemson. He tallied 14 carries for 30 yards. The majority of the 5’10” running back’s production came on kickoff returns this season, averaging 22.8 yards per return on six total attempts.

In 2024, Smith saw game action in only four games to preserve his redshirt. Over those four games, he ran for 152 yards on 22 carries, highlighted by a 78-yard run against Washington.

Out of high school, Smith was rated as a four-star recruit by 247Sports and committed to the Nittany Lions in April of 2023.

Smith is the 29th Nittany Lion to enter the transfer portal.
