Your Guide To 2026 MLK Day Events At Penn State

Events will be held over the next few weeks to honor the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. at Penn State University Park and across branch campuses.
We’ve got you covered with a list of all the events happening.
Monday, January 19
MLK Jr. Day Service
The annual MLK Day service will be held from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the HUB-Robeson Center. The service even encourages individuals to volunteer in their community to honor his legacy of service and social justice. Student organizations can sign up as a group as well. Tuesday, January 20
MLK Jr. Memorial March
The Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial March will begin at 3:45 p.m. at the MLK Jr. Plaza downtown. State College Mayor Ezra Nanes and others will give speeches prior to the march. The march will end at the HUB with a panel discussion at 4:45 p.m. in Freeman Auditorium. You can RSVP for the march here.
MLK Jr. Panel Discussion
After the MLK match, members of the State College community are invited to attend a discussion in the HUB’s Freeman Auditorium. It will be moderated by Penn State students Deja Workman and Noa Harlow Diggs, and will feature Randall Maurice Jelks and Ruth N. Halls, both professors at Indiana University–Bloomington; Wade Fulton Dean, community success and belonging specialist at the Paul Robeson Cultural Center; and Tracey Mariner, councilwoman of State College. “Dilemmas of Democracy: A Conversation with NPR’s Ayesha Rascoe”
National Public Radio’s Ayesha Rascoe will be at the Music Recital Hall at 7 p.m. for a student-led conversation on democracy, journalism, and engaging in dialogue across differing views. Rascoe will be talking about how her role as a journalist has impacted her understanding of democracy and politics. Wednesday, January 21
MLK Jr. Poetry & Performance
Those wanting to attend an evening of poetry can do so at the HUB in the Lion’s Lair Lounge from 6-8 p.m., where there will be music, readings, movement, and more. Performances will include the winners of the Alpha Phi Alpha Oratorical Competition. You can RSVP here.
“Razing Liberty Square” Film Watch & Discussion
A screening of the film Razing Liberty Square will be happening online from 7-9 p.m. with a post-film discussion featuring Marc Miller, associate professor of landscape architecture, and Clarissa Albrecht, lecturer in architecture. The screening and discussion will take place online over Zoom, and more information can be found here.
Friday, January 23
A Musical Tribute to MLK Jr.
The Penn State University Student Leadership Initiative and Center for the Performing Arts will host “Noire,” a Spelman College contemporary music ensemble, for a performance at the HUB starting at 7:30 p.m. The program will feature performances by the United Christian Campus Ministry Choir and Penn State’s acclaimed choral ensemble, Essence of Joy. Wednesday, January 28
The Light We Carry
The College of Health and Human Development’s Office for Diversity and Inclusion will be honoring MLK through a storytelling event at 110 Henderson Building from noon to 1:30 p.m. or online. The event will connect storytelling with self-reflection. The Zoom can be found here.
Saturday, January 31
Screening of King In The Wilderness
The screening will be hosted by the Paul Robeson Cultural Center and Martin Luther King Student Coordinating Committee and invites viewers to engage more deeply with King’s legacy. You can RSVP for the screening here.
