What To Do At Penn State On A Snow Day

We officially have a snow day, folks! Penn State announced classes will be canceled all day Monday, January 26, giving students the perfect excuse to head outside and have some fun, or stay indoors and get cozy.

Let’s take a look at what you can do on a fun snow day.

Sledding, Snowmen, & Snowball Fights

The best part of a snow day is, of course, the snow, so go play in it. Bundle up in your warmest gear and head out into the storm with your friends. Build snowmen everywhere you can. Go sledding down Shortlidge Road or the HUB Lawn. Reminisce about the first snow of the season and start a snowball fight with strangers in front of Old Main. There’s no limit to what you can do in the snow, so have fun.

Cozy Day Indoors

If braving the freezing outdoors isn’t exactly your style, a peaceful day inside can be just as great. While staying all day indoors may sound boring, there’s plenty to do if you get creative. Cozy up with friends on the couch and put on a good TV show or start a movie marathon. You can bake all kinds of treats or cook a delicious meal. Try out arts and crafts you’ve been putting off, like embroidery or painting. The sky’s the limit.

Go Be Whimsical

Live out your whimsical dreams and embrace the snow. Dance in it, especially if it’s still falling, or make snow angels everywhere you go. You could even take some fun photos in the beautiful winter scenery. Just let yourself be playful.

Make Treats With The Snow

Use the snow to your advantage and make some fun treats outside. While you shouldn’t actually eat snow (especially yellow snow), it can still be part of the experience. Try making “homemade” ice cream or snow cones outdoors; they’ll be delicious.

Call Family

When all else fails, pick up the phone. Maybe you haven’t called your parents in a while — check in and see how they’re doing. Reach out to grandparents, aunts, uncles, or siblings. Sometimes time just gets away from us, and it’s never a bad idea to call the ones you love.

Whatever you do on your snow day, be safe and have fun!
