Penn State Football To Play Northwestern On October 2 In New Ryan Field Debut

Penn State football is set to play Northwestern in primetime on Friday, October 2, in the Wildcats’ New Ryan Field debut game, per ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg. The matchup was originally set for October 3 and didn’t specify a venue.
Northwestern will play its first two games of the regular season at its lakeside Northwestern Medicine Field at Martin Stadium. Northwestern athletic director Mark Jackson said the school waited for the Big Ten schedule release before finalizing the stadium’s debut opponent.
The two squads last met in Beaver Stadium on October 11, where the Nittany Lions dropped their third consecutive game and Drew Allar went down with a season-ending ankle injury. James Franklin was fired the following day.
Penn State will not only be the Wildcats’ New Ryan Field opener, but the Nittany Lions will also be their Big Ten home opener. The stadium cost $862 million to build.
