Penn State Fires Lady Lions Head Coach Carolyn Kieger

The Carolyn Kieger era is over at Penn State.

Penn State Athletics announced the firing of the now former Penn State women’s basketball head coach on Thursday afternoon.

Across seven seasons, in Happy Valley, Kieger finished with an 84-123 overall record at the helm of the blue and white. Penn State finished 11-18 and 4-14 in the Big Ten this season. Kieger had one winning season during her time as head coach of the Lady Lions.

“We appreciate Coach Kieger’s commitment and passion she brought to Penn State Lady Lion Basketball,” said Vice President for Intercolligate Athletics Pat Kraft. “Looking ahead, we remain committed to competing at the highest level, and we believe a change in leadership is necessary to propel the program toward sustained excellence.”

Kraft and the athletic department will begin the search for the program’s next head coach immediately.
