McLanahan’s Release ‘Pablo Pledgescobar’ Shirts After Penn State Cocaine Trafficking Bust

Just days after Pennsylvania authorities announced charges against fourteen current and former Penn State students allegedly involved in a cocaine-trafficking operation, McLanahan’s has released shirts referencing the case.

The well-known State College retailer, which sells Penn State apparel at its Student Room and Penn State storefronts, added the shirts as the allegations continue to draw attention to the Penn State community.

The two shirts, which are listed on the website in men’s sizes, read “Free Pablo Pledgescobar” and “Saturdays are for the Kingpin.”

The designs show a college-age male hitting an eight ball. The term 8 ball of cocaine is slang for 3.5 grams of cocaine because it’s equivalent to one-eighth of an ounce of the drug.

McLanahan’s did not respond to a request for comment.

The shirts appear to reference Agostino Abbatiello, whom Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday identified as “at the very top” of the drug trafficking ring and described as the largest cocaine distributor for Penn State students by a witness.

Abbatiello has gained the nickname “Pablo Pledgescobar” on social media since he was denied bail on Tuesday as a play on the name of the notorious drug lord Pablo Escobar.

Abbatiello was one of 13 former and current Penn State students charged on Monday for a drug trafficking ring that allegedly operated out of off-campus houses of Delta Upsilon and Sigma Chi.

The former member of Sigma Chi received more than $123,500 in drug payments, according to Onward State’s review of the grand jury presentment.

Abbatiello was paid through five specifically priced cocaine purchases totaling $73,500, as well as more than $50,000 that another witness claimed he paid Abbatiello for drugs.

With the case continuing to draw attention across Penn State and online, McLanahan’s has already turned one of the biggest Penn State stories of the year into merchandise available to students and the general public.
