Report: Former Penn State Football Defensive End Odafe Oweh To Sign With Washington Commanders

Former Penn State football defensive end Odafe Oweh is set to sign a four-year, $100 million contract with the Washington Commanders with $68 million guaranteed, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Oweh cannot officially sign the deal until the new league year opens on Wednesday.

Oweh has blossomed into one of the NFL’s better outside linebackers through his first five NFL seasons. He started off as a defensive end, but made the move to the middle level of the defense after his rookie year. He was drafted No. 31 overall by the Baltimore Ravens in the 2021 NFL Draft.

In his time with the Ravens, Oweh racked up 23 sacks, 148 total tackles, 26 tackles-for-loss, and 66 quarterback hits. He was traded to the Los Angeles Chargers in October 2025, where he notched 7.5 sacks, 28 total tackles, eight tackles-for-loss, and 13 quarterback hits in his short time in Southern California.

In his time at Penn State, Oweh totaled 63 tackles, 13.5 tackles-for-loss, seven sacks, two forced fumbles, two pass breakups, and two passes defended. He is the second Nittany Lion to get a nice payday in the first day of free agency tampering, with Jahan Dotson going to the Atlanta Falcons and Jordan Stout becoming the highest-paid punter in NFL history with the New York Giants.
