Brainstorming Tanisha Wright’s Burger For The Field

We’re back on burger watch, folks.
With the official introduction of the Lady Lions’ new head coach, Tanisha Wright, last Monday afternoon, it’s time to concentrate on what matters most: replacing Carolyn Kieger’s “Juicy Lucy Burger on the “Coaches Corner” menu at The Field Burger & Tap.
Whenever it arrives, Wright’s burger will dethrone Matt Campbell’s “Roman Burger” as the newest on the block, but what flashy ingredients will it feature?
Take a look at our concoction of Coach Wright’s potential signature burger at The Field.
The Wright Delight
Introducing The Wright Delight, a burger with a Southern flair and tenacious flavor, just like the five-time All-WNBA defender it’s named after.
We’ll start with the foundation of the burger: the bun. Nobody likes a tough piece of bread that distracts from the main ingredients, so the Wright Delight features a toasted, buttery Hawaiian bun that gives to the touch with its pillowy softness and provides a subtle sweetness.
Next, we take The Field’s signature Eleven Oaks Wagyu meat patty, then top it with a melty slice of smoked Gruyère cheese for a rich, savory bite. A certified hooper like Coach Wright needs to get her protein in.
Then we move on to the toppings, which are where some of Wright’s personal flavors come into play. The Wright Delight will feature a hot peach bacon jam inspired by her time as head coach of the Atlanta Dream, the WNBA team based in the Peach State.
In her three seasons with the team, Wright logged three double-digit win seasons, including back-to-back playoff appearances, and received AP Coach of the Year honors in 2022. Her time in the “A” will certainly stick with her as she begins her new chapter at Penn State, so it’s a no-brainer to pay homage to it with finely diced peaches, sauteed white onions, and crispy bacon bits tossed in a spicy jam spread on the Wright Delight.
Finally, like any good burger, it needs a crunch. As a player, Wright was drafted 12th overall by the Seattle Storm in the 2005 WNBA Draft and spent 10 seasons rocking a vibrant green jersey. To incorporate her decade of accomplishments in the Emerald City, which included nine-straight playoff appearances and a championship victory in 2010, we must add some shades of green. You can never go wrong with a leaf of crispy yet refreshing lettuce, but we’re also gonna throw on lightly breaded, fried garlic zucchini straws to complete the texture with a flavorful veggie.
The Wright Delight offers a range of flavors, including the sweetness of the Hawaiian bun and peaches, the smokiness of the bacon bits and Gruyère, the crispiness of the lettuce and zucchini straws, and the spiciness of the hot jam. All of these elements would blend perfectly together with the rich fattiness of the wagyu patty.
The Field better take notes, because my mouth is watering.
