UPUA’s 21st Assembly Is Officially In Session

The 21st Assembly of the University Park Undergraduate Association (UPUA) met on Wednesday for the first time to swear in new president Kat Hogan, vice president Maria Lopez, and all 21st Assembly representatives and executive staff.

A few students spoke during the student forum, including a Movin’ On liaison pitching the role to the next candidate, and a member from the Latino Caucus to advertise its event on April 10 with food from Lupitas and live music. More information can be found on Instagram.

Immediately after, Hogan gave her first presidential report, where she pledged to bring transparency and effectiveness to her role and throughout the assembly.

Lopez followed with her vice president’s address, where she went over the rules of general meetings and then moved into elections.

Elections

The majority of the meeting was spent on position elections, including the election of Speaker of the Assembly, Vice Speaker, Chair of Academic Affairs, Chair of Campus Operations, Chair of Government and Community Relations, Chair of Justice and Equity, and Chair of Student Engagement and Wellness.

Confirmations

Three positions were also confirmed and sworn in during the meeting:

  • Chief of Staff Shreya Budakoti
  • Executive Director of Finance Alison Tawil
  • Secretary Henry Wagner

Following the caucus breakout, the remainder of the items were struck from the agenda, and comments for the good of the order and closing roll call ended the meeting at 10:23 p.m.

The next UPUA general assembly meeting will be on April 15, where they will pass the budget for the next year.
