Kitchen Garden Celebrates One Year Since Opening

Kitchen Garden, a family-owned Mediterranean restaurant at 2137 S. Atherton St., recently celebrated its first year in business. The restaurant is owned and operated by three Turkish families who specialize in traditional Turkish and Mediterranean cuisine. Their goal is to create a welcoming space for the community while providing delicious food.

Six languages are spoken among the staff, and they are always learning from each other.

“The staff is very diverse, and we are always teaching each other words and phrases,” said head chef Trex. Kayla, the family’s daughter, grew up in State College and proudly celebrates her Turkish background. It’s more than just a restaurant; it’s a family.

Although the focus is on Turkish and Mediterranean cuisine, the restaurant also offers classic breakfast options such as pancakes and omelets. Chef Trex is focused on creating fresh, quality dishes that represent Turkish flavors and traditions. “Everything is fresh and organic and made in-house that day,” he said.

The menu is large and diverse, ranging from a grilled cheese to lamb chops, which can be found at Kitchen Garden. The Kitchen Garden Mix is an entrée featuring a selection of Turkish specialties, with each item representing a different region of Turkey. This is an intentional decision created by the staff to create a menu that suits everyone. Trex strives to “make creative twists on Turkish dishes that still represent tradition”.

The restaurant also offers weekly latte specials, each created and named by a staff member. Some of the recent specials have been a Samoa and Thin Mint latte.

“This adds personality and keeps things fresh for regular customers,” Trex said.

Kitchen Garden celebrates more than just success; it continues to honor its family traditions through food. The restaurant creates fresh, authentic cuisine that brings pride to their community. Be on the lookout for extended hours and dinner service in the future!
