Penn State Softball’s Breanna Hanik Named Big Ten Freshman Of The Week

Penn State softball outfielder Breanna Hanik was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week on Monday. The recognition came after an impressive showing in a three-game sweep of Illinois.

The Oak Lawn, Illinois native hit .583 with a 2.032 OPS over three games against the Fighting Illini, with seven RBIs. She hit a home run in each game.

In the final game of the series, Hanik hit her tenth homer of the season, pushing Penn State as a team to 75 on the year, a single-season record for the Nittany Lions. The outfielder is one of only four players in double digits for Penn State.

The weekly award is the first in Hanik’s career and marks the first Freshman of the Week for Penn State since Allison Oneacre earlier this season.

Hanik and the Nittany Lions will return to action on Friday, hosting a three-game series against No. 4 Nebraska. All three games can be streamed on the Big Ten Network, with the first one starting at 5 p.m.
