Penn State Men’s Gymnastics Head Coach Randy Jepson Done After 35 Years

There is a leadership change in Happy Valley.
Per the Penn State men’s gymnastics website, head coach Randy Jepson’s contract will not be renewed after 35 years of leading the program. Jepson is a three-time National Coach of the Year with three national championships and nearly 450 career victories under his belt.
“Randy’s contributions to Penn State Athletics and college gymnastics are immeasurable,” Penn State’s Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Pat Kraft said in a press release. “He has been devoted to Penn State for 45 years, including 35 years as a head coach.”
Jepson’s last National Championship was in 2007, with the prior two in 2004 and 2000. The Nittany Lions went 3-3 this season, 1-3 in conference play. They finished fifth of five teams at the Big Ten Team Championship.
Tony Beck, who has spent 10 years on staff, will assume the role of head coach heading into 2027. Beck joined the program in 2016 as an assistant coach and has served as associate head coach for the squad since 2023.
“It is an incredible honor to be named the head coach of the Penn State men’s gymnastics team,” Beck told Penn State. “This program shaped me as a student-athlete, coach, and person, and I understand the standard, pride, and expectations that come with representing Penn State Gymnastics.”
Beck is a 2013 Penn State graduate and former gymnast who led the Nittany Lions to a second-place finish at the Big Ten Championships and a fourth-place finish at the NCAA Championships his senior year.
Beck was named Central Region Assistant Coach of the Year in 2025 after Penn State finished fifth at the NCAA Championships, the program’s best finish in nine seasons.
