Penn State Baseball’s Matthew VanOstenbridge To Enter Transfer Portal

Penn State baseball relief pitcher Matthew VanOstenbridge announced on social media on Monday that he will enter the transfer portal when it opens on June 1. He has two years of eligibility remaining.
VanOstenbridge initially committed to Penn State out of Wilson High School as the No. 46 player and No. 7 left-handed pitcher in Pennsylvania in the class of 2024, according to Perfect Game.
Unlike most of the pitchers in his class, he was a big contributor to the bullpen as a multi-inning reliever and spot starter as a true freshman, tossing 41.2 innings and pitching to a 4.32 ERA with 38 strikeouts.
He was set up to be a bigger part of the bullpen in 2026, but struggled early, and his usage waned over the course of the season. VanOstenbridge was limited to just two appearances, both in midweek action, over the final month and change, ultimately finishing with a 9.00 ERA in 10 innings with 12 walks to 14 strikeouts.
He’s the third Nittany Lion to announce his intentions to enter the transfer portal, joining graduate transfers Nate Voss and Jack Porter.
