What I Already Miss About Penn State

Well, folks, we have been home for about three weeks now, and I am beginning to lose my mind.
While some of us are home, or starting internships, or studying abroad, I’m sure we are all missing certain aspects of Penn State right about now. We all miss our friends and gamedays, but sometimes you get an itch for a specific moment. Here are just a few Penn State experiences I am missing while waiting for my internship to begin.
Crying Over Penn State Sports
I don’t just miss sports, but also the act of crying about them.
No matter the outcome, there are tears. Screaming at the Phillies each night through my television doesn’t have the same effect as crying behind the glass during hockey games. The shared experience we have as fans and students is like no other. We could be living through the worst academic week imaginable, then end our Saturday with a football win after a full day of drinking. Those tears feel earned, and that is something I am looking forward to this fall.
Waiting In Line For DVSN
Controversial opinion – I don’t mind waiting in line for the bars, especially Champs.
With Brothers being across the street and Pickle’s being down the road, there are so many characters around. Those Thursday nights at Champs hold so many memories, and the anticipation for an insane night ahead is magical. Also, if you’re with the right people, waiting in those bar lines is an incredible bonding moment.
The State Theatre
I am a self-proclaimed cinephile and a chronic movie re-watcher. I yearn for their Halloween lineup and their yearly showing of “When Harry Met Sally” on Valentine’s Day, where I am the only single person there.
The theater is my favorite place to go to ignore my schoolwork and escape reality for a few hours. Plus, I could eat their popcorn for every meal.
THON
Such a basic answer, but for me, THON has changed the way I view Penn State. I would stand 46 hours every single weekend if it meant helping the kids. THON also has a great way of bringing the Penn State community together, and I miss seeing the ribbon sales downtown before a big game.
I could talk about THON for hours, so I will keep this short and just say I miss THON as a whole.
Cafe At 2 P.M. On Thursdays
Can you tell I like going out on Thursdays?
Cafe can get extremely busy and very overwhelming, in my opinion. But when it is empty, and you’re beating a dead horse in broad daylight while sipping pitchers, it’s perfect.
