Penn State Men’s Basketball To Renew Rivalry With Pitt At The Palestra

Penn State men’s basketball will return to the historic Palestra for a matchup against Pitt on Sunday, November 8, the program announced Thursday morning.
Not only will the meeting mark the 150th all-time matchup between the two programs, but it will also mark The Palestra’s 100th anniversary.
“Games like this are what college basketball is all about: great history, passionate fan bases and high-level competition,” head coach Mike Rhoades said in a release. “The Palestra is one of the most iconic venues in college basketball, and the opportunity to celebrate its 100th anniversary while renewing an in-state rivalry for the 150th time makes this a special event for everyone connected to our program. We know there will be tremendous energy in the building, and we’re excited for our players to experience that atmosphere as they represent Penn State. We can’t wait to take the floor in Philadelphia and compete.”
The Nittany Lions are no stranger to the “Cathedral of College Basketball” located on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania, having played their first game there in 1927 and logging another 63 games since then. Penn State holds a 25-39 all-time record at The Palestra but has found recent success, winning five of its last eight games there. During their last appearance in The Palestra, the Nittany Lions fell to No. 20 Illinois 73-65.
As for the Keystone State rivalry, Penn State will look to further close the 76-73 gap in the all-time series against the Panthers. The two squads clashed last year at GIANT Center in Hershey, when Pitt beat Penn State 80-46. That result aligns with recent outcomes from the matchup, as the Nittany Lions have lost their last six of seven games against Pitt.
Game time, television information, and ticket details will be announced at a later date.
