Berkey Creamery Announces New Flavor To Commemorate One Millionth Degree

The Berkey Creamery has announced a limited-time ice cream flavor, “One Million Scholar’s Chip,” to commemorate Penn State’s one millionth degree on Saturday.
The flavor, which Penn State’s community voted on, will be available from August 24 through the end of the calendar year, according to a news release.
“We’re honored to be a part of the one millionth degree celebration,” the creamery’s operations manager Doug Thomas said. “The Creamery is a staple with many of our students, alumni and the Penn State community. We’ve been part of the University for 161 years and are happy to provide a product that brings smiles and joy to so many people.”
The Creamery describes the new flavor as “sweet and flavorful vanilla ice cream that gets a boost from extra vanilla bean and chocolate chips.”
The finalists for the commemorative flavor included One Milla Vanilla Bean, Million Strong Strawberry, Millionth Degree Mint Nittany, and One Mil Grilled Stickies.
Before Saturday, Penn State had awarded more than 999,400 cumulative degrees. On Saturday, it awarded nearly 2,700 diplomas to students university-wide, officially crossing the millionth-degree milestone.
Along with the new ice cream flavor, Gov. Josh Shapiro will make a statewide proclamation marking the historic milestone and Penn State’s impactful history across Pennsylvania.
Local proclamations from State College Mayor Ezra Nanes, and the Borough of State College and Centre County commissioners will also be made.
