The alleged ringleader of the Penn State cocaine trafficking case has posted his bail hours after his preliminary hearing, according to Centre County Correctional Facility and PA SAVIN.

Agostino Abbatiello, a former Penn State student and Sigma Chi fraternity member, is alleged to have led the large-scale cocaine trafficking ring and received more than $123,500 in drug payments, according to the grand jury presentment.

Abbatiello was bonded out hours after his preliminary hearing ended with a reversal of his denial of bail from August 18. District Judge Kelley Gillette-Walker had cited “flight risk; serious allegations of drug use/sales=danger to public” as the reason for his denial, which was overturned by Centre County President Judge Jonathan Grine on Wednesday.

Abbatiello was granted $250,000 in secured bail on the condition that he turn in his passport to law enforcement, live with his parents, travel with them to any further proceedings, refrain from consuming alcohol or controlled substances until after the trial, and make no contact with witnesses.

Prosecutors asked for $5 million in secured bail for Abbatiello during the hearing, though Grine granted a monetary value much closer to Abbatiello’s $200,000 unsecured suggestion.

Authorities allege Abbatiello was at the center of the operation. A witness who testified against Abbatiello called him “the largest dealer of cocaine for Penn State University students.”

Abbatiello is facing 11 felony charges, including two first-degree and one third-degree. All 11 charges are set to move forward to trail.
