A highly intoxicated man has been charged after allegedly biting emergency medical personnel and kicking at police officers during the Penn State-Buffalo football game on Saturday.

Christian Swartwood, a 19-year-old from Lock Haven, Pennsylvania, is charged with a felony count, three misdemeanors, and four summary offenses. He is not listed in the Penn State student directory.

According to court documents, the charges include a felony count of aggravated assault and misdemeanor counts of simple assault, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct. Smartwood also faces summary counts of public drunkenness and purchasing alcohol as a minor, amongst other things.

At the time of the arrest, Smartwood allegedly smelled of alcohol and was unable to maintain his balance while sitting in section EH, per court documents obtained by StateCollege.com.

When officers arrived on scene and attempted to remove him via stair chair, he became combative and bit an EMS employee’s right hand, causing injuries.

Swartwood then began swinging at officers as they attempted to place him into handcuffs and continually kicked at police and EMS officers. He remained combative until he was later sedated at the EMS station located in Beaver Stadium.

Smartwood allegedly damaged an EMS employee’s $150 sunglasses.

Smartwood’s bail has been set at $15,000.000, and a preliminary hearing is set for Wednesday, September 23, at 8:30 a.m. with Magisterial District Judge Casey M. McClain.
