Whether you’re a freshman or a longtime alum, we’ve all thought about what it’d be like to sit in Penn State football’s student section beyond our time as a student.

Beaver Stadium’s south tunnel seating provides one of the most raucous environments in all of college football. Who wouldn’t want to be a part of that?

But what’s the limit? How old is too old to kick it with Penn State’s smartest and loudest on a fall Saturday?

Our staff has mixed opinions on the age cutoff to experience the famed Penn State student section.

Brian Kriley: 22 Years Old

Uncs can sit in the upper deck.

Chris Green: Over 30 Years Old

I feel like anything above 30 is too old.

At that point, you’ve already had your college experience. You would be taking seats away from students who actually attend Penn State.

You can still show up and be loud for the Nittany Lions, just maybe not with the students?

Ella Cofone: If You’re Old Enough To Be A Parent

I fully think that if you are old enough to be a parent of a college kid, you should NOT be in the student section. Unless you go to an underhyped game, like the really cold Thanksgiving ones, you don’t need to be in the student section.

It’s obviously fun to be in the student section, but if you’re 40 and making it hard for students to get good seats to their own college game, you’re the issue. Sit in a section near the students or bring the hype of the student section to your own area!

You DON’T have to be in the student section to be hype.

Ella Wehmeyer: Over 30 Years Old

I feel like there’s an age range between your 30s and throughout your 50s that just feels weird to see in the student section. A couple of years into postgrad, it seems okay, but seeing grandparents in the student section is just funny to me.

If you’re in your prime parent-aged years, though, I’m not sure. It just feels weird to be in the student section full of 18-to-22-year-olds enjoying their college years, in my eyes.

Gabe Alpher: 25 Years Old

Even if you’re still a student at that age, you have to move out.

Holden Mostofsky: 27 Years Old

I think after your mid-20s, you should be out of the student section. At least 24- to 26-year-olds could be grad students and still know some undergraduates.

After that, you should be in the regular crowd.

Tyler Eyerman: 28 Years Old

Twenty-eight and up is too old for the student section.

If you’re 10 years removed from high school, it’s probably time to sit somewhere new.

Zach Paulhamus: 35 Years Old

The age limit for the Penn State student section is 35. But if you can make it out of Beaver Stadium without needing any ibuprofen, I think you’ve made your case!

Oscar Orellana: 23 Years Old

I don’t know if this is a popular opinion, but if you aren’t an undergraduate student, you’ve got to wrap it up and find some regular seats. A student section should only be for the dominant student makeup at a school.

I’m sorry, postgrad and law students! If you’re not even a student, I will judge you for taking a student section seat. Don’t take seats from kids who genuinely want to experience their God-given right as a student. Just don’t be that person.

I know college journeys come in all shapes and sizes, but 18-22 years old is the sweet spot in my eyes.
