Two Penn State Women’s Hockey Players Receive AHA Recognition

Two Penn State women’s hockey standouts have received weekly recognition from the AHA, the conference announced Monday.
Freshman Sofia Ismael won Forward of the Week, and sophomore Sophie Morrow earned Defender of the Week after a dominant performance against Robert Morris.
Ismael not only recorded her first collegiate goal, but she also added an assist in the Nittany Lions’ 5-3 win against Robert Morris on Friday, and a hat trick and another assist in Saturday’s 4-1 win.
She is the first freshman to score a hat trick for Penn State since Grace Outwater in 2024.
Ismael was involved in six of the nine goals the Nittany Lions recorded this week and scored on four of her seven shots. She currently shares the national lead among freshmen in goals with four and is one point behind the lead in points with six through four games.
Morrow earned her first career weekly award after helping lead the defense to a Nittany Lion sweep over Robert Morris.
She recorded two assists in Saturday’s 4-1 win and finished with a +2 rating. Morrow and her teammates limited the Colonials to four shots on goal in Saturday’s game, and only in the second period.
This marked the second-fewest shots allowed by an AHA team all time, trailing the single shot Penn State allowed at Delaware on October 11, 2025.
Morrow also had a career-high eight shots on goal in Saturday’s game.
No. 4 Penn State is back in action on Friday and Saturday for a two-game series at Syracuse. Friday’s game is slated for 6 p.m. and Saturday’s for 3 p.m.
Both games will stream on FloHockey for folks unable to travel to Syracuse.
