Former Penn State football running back Kaytron Allen has been waived by the Washington Commanders, the team announced Thursday afternoon.

The 2026 sixth-round pick only saw 12 carries through just four appearances with Washington to start his rookie year. He rushed 41 yards and did not reach the end zone.

Allen went viral for ramming into guard Sam Cosmi’s neck area on a routine play in the Commanders’ Week 2 game against the Dallas Cowboys. Cosmi missed Washington’s next two contests with a concussion and throat injury, but returned to Commanders practice ahead of Week 5.

The Commanders’ running back room is crowded with Jacory Croskey-Merritt, Rachaad White, and Austin Ekeler. Allen is no stranger to splitting carries, as he did with Nick Singleton for all four years in Happy Valley, but Washington may have been just a bit too crowded, even for him.

Allen will hit the waiver wire and should be picked up quickly. He holds Penn State’s rushing yards record with 4,180 after a stellar 1,303-yard, 15-touchdown performance for the Nittany Lions in 2025. He tabbed 15 total touchdowns in his time at Penn State.
