Penn State Women’s Soccer Forward Aubrey Kulpa Leading Attack Into Final Regular Season Game

As Penn State women’s soccer heads into its final regular-season game against the Indiana Hoosiers, forward Aubrey Kulpa’s development has become central to the Nittany Lions’ success.

Kulpa most recently made her presence known during the 2-2 draw at No. 24 Michigan on Saturday and the 2-1 upset win at No. 5 Michigan State. Kulpa scored all three Nittany Lion goals on the weekend.

“I’ve seen a player that wants to be the primary goal scorer,” head coach Erica Dambach said of Kulpa. “I’ve seen somebody who wants to put the team on her back when we need her most, and that’s a special quality.”

The entire coaching staff has seen Kulpa become more involved not only in the attack, but also in defense. Dambach specifically said she’s been excellent on both sides of the ball.

This has made Kulpa a well-rounded player as the Nittany Lions prepare for the Big Ten Tournament and, if they qualify, the NCAA tournament.

Dambach also added that Kulpa isn’t the only player stepping up this season, noting that Ellie Kocher’s performance this season proves the Nittany Lions don’t lack depth in attack.

Kulpa’s contributions and progression as a player have been evident throughout the season so far, helping lead the Nittany Lions to an 8-3-5 (6-2-3 Big Ten) record.

“She’s just becoming more and more of a complete player with each passing month right now,” Dambach said.

Kulpa leads the Nittany Lions with eight goals, four assists, 20 points, and 47 total shots, 22 of them on goal. Kalal trails with six goals, four assists, 16 points, and 30 shots, 13 on goal.

As Penn State prepares for its final regular-season game, Kulpa will have another opportunity to demonstrate her growth as a player.

While scoring remains a crucial part of her game, her ability to play both sides of the ball has made her contribution to the team more than just goal scoring.

Penn State is back in action Friday, hosting the Indiana Hoosiers at 7 p.m. at Jeffrey Field. The match will be streamed on Big Ten Plus for folks to watch at home.

Dambach wants folks to “bring the kids, have fun, come in costume. Let’s make it a great community night.”
