Penn State wrestling coach Cael Sanderson was quite the grappler in his day. During his time at Iowa State, he won four straight national championships and did not lose a match, going 159-0. He went on to win the gold medal in the 2004 Olympics in freestyle wrestling. After his Nittany Lion team won the Big Ten Tournament earlier this month, Sanderson has forced to uphold a promise he made to his men by competing in the USA Wrestling Northeast Senior Freestyle Regionals which took place this past weekend. Even though he hadn't wrestled in a official match in seven years, he didn't seem to miss a beat.
Thursday morning, UPUA presidential candidate David Adewumi and vice-presidential candidate Sri Pisupati called a news conference to address the recent controversy that has surrounded their campaign. They said that while they have been criticized since the beginning of election season, their passion for Penn State and its students has not vanished and they are determined to make the university and its student government better. After much difficult thinking and back-and-forth, they reached the decision to stay in the race.

Penn State men's basketball coach Ed DeChellis earned another vote of confidence from athletic director Tim Curley, says Altoona Mirror reporter Cory Giger in a story that was released on Monday. After a 19-15 season which included the Nittany Lions' first NCAA Tournament appearance in a decade and DeChellis's first appearance since arriving in Happy Valley eight years ago, Curley said that the future of the program is bright and that he is "supportive of everything he [DeChellis] is doing." Curley offered a similar statement last April, a month after the 2009-2010 team, who had very lofty expectations after winning the NIT Championship the year before, went 11-20, putting them in the cellar of the Big Ten.
Athletic directors from across the Big Ten announced on Monday their intention to recommend making men's ice hockey an official conference varsity sport. Their recommendation would state that the conference would start sponsoring conference play in the 2013-2014 season. The conference season would include 20 conference games for each of the six Big Ten teams with Division I hockey programs with two games home and away with each opponent. Starting with the inaugural 2014 season, a conference tournament will take place with the winner earning the Big Ten's automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.
