University Park beat Snowpocalpyse '10, there's no doubt about that. Roads were clear by early morning, classes continued as usual (although they were a bit sparser than normal). You'd think the resilience would make a country on the outskirts of depression Happy (as in the Valley). Quite the contrary emerged on Facebook, however. Chase explained what happened earlier this morning, but in short, some Facebook fans decided it was time to tell Penn State exactly how maligned it was for refusing to cancel classes yesterday.
What do you think? Did Penn State make the right call? Was yesterday's opening a slight against the safety of the vast Penn State UP community?
After an embarrassing setback by the leak of his email to IFC presidents about the Penn State Pulse survey, IFC President Max Wendkos seems determined to his resolve in combating high-risk drinking. The question is whether it will matter.
The rules are no liquor, no wine, and no more than 50 nonmembers. Frankly, this will likely do less good than a similar proposal from the taverns or UPUA would. And later tonight we will see UPUA President Gavin Keirans lead his assembly in discussion of the holiday-- after he announces his veto on a piece of elections code legislation.
Multiple times each year, Student Affairs Research & Assessment conducts a Penn State Student Drinking Survey as part of its Pulse program. The most recent solicitations to take the survey began coming out last week.
On January 19, IFC President Max Wendkos sent out an email to the list of University Park fraternity chapter presidents discouraging Greek participation in the survey.
I contacted Max to ask for more context regarding his opinions on the survey. Read his response and my analysis after the jump.
