Last Monday, the Daily Collegian’s editorial cartoon seemed a bit more…familiar than usual. The reason for this was the addition of cartoonist Alex Donahue, a 5-year Penn State architecture student. Usually, the Daily Collegian’s political cartoons are from various publications and feature national or global issues. The typical student response was to be thankful we don’t live near oil deposits and go on with our day. Local cartoons could change that.

Hip hop singer B.o.B is going to bust out lyrics, spit mad rhymes, and do other things that I don’t know the meaning of at the Bryce Jordan Center at the end of August. He and fellow hip hop virtuoso Travis “Travie” McCoy, lead vocalist of Gym Class Heroes, will perform at the Bryce Jordan Center at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 31. The performance is part of The SHOOTiN for Stars Tour.
B.o.B released his debut album earlier this year on April 27. B.o.B Presents: The Adventures of Bobby Ray debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 and sold 84,000 copies in the first week. McCoy also released his debut album, Lazarus, this year in June. The single “Billionaire” peaked at #4 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Tickets will go on sale next Friday at 12 p.m. for $35 ($20 if you have a Penn State ID). They are available at the Bryce Jordan Ticket Center, Eisenhower Auditorium, Downtown Theatre, Penn State Altoona campus, or you can order them online or by phone at 814-865-5555.
Saturday Night Live comedian and head writer Seth Meyers is set to do a stand-up act at the Bryce Jordan Center at 8 p.m. on September 17. Coming off a big Wednesday night at the ESPY’s, Meyers is ready to get Penn State to “laugh hysterically” in front of what should be a rather large crowd at the BJC.
University Park students can see the nine year SNL veteran for $9.99 with a valid PSU student ID courtesy of UPAC. Tickets will be available to the general public Friday, July 30 at 10 a.m. Additional information can be found on the event’s Facebook page.
There will be another group of artists alongside the painters, potters, jewelers, photographers and musicians of Arts Fest 2010: authors. Arts Fest has now accepted the written word into its gallery and will definitely be at least twice as "Fest" with Book Fest PA.
The first annual Book Fest PA will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today in the Schlow Centre Region Library. Each hour, a different author will present their work, meet fans, sign books, and talk about writing experiences.

This past April, Penn Stater magazine editor Tina Hay rented a helicopter from Cherokee Helicopter in Ford City, Penn. She brought Penn State Live photographer Andy Colwell along with her in a flight above Penn State’s University Park campus. Rather than pursue my dream of performing helicopter wheelies, she chose a more practical mission of capturing beautiful aerial shots of the campus for alumni to enjoy.
