I’ve never really been a fan of the Academy Awards. Sure, they tried to get on my good side by not giving Avatar any awards it didn’t deserve. Still, the Academy obviously has it out for my two favorite flavors of film: animation and comedy.
This Sunday, the State Theatre will play one of the most compelling films of 2010 that doesn’t feature sparkly vampires.
Gasland is the story of filmmaker Josh Fox and his adventures across the country to find out about the cartoon supervillian of the USA, the oil industry. Along the way, Fox interviews some people who don’t like the oil industry (everyone who doesn’t make money off the oil industry).
A new video game store will press start and begin life in downtown State College this week. I’ve included Bérubé’s explanation for each film's inclusion. My own cynical comments are also listed, free of charge.
What was the last Adam Sandler movie that was actually funny? It’s a question that will likely produce a variety of answers. I’m fairly sure every answer will require backtracking quite a few years. Penn State’s Institute for the Arts and Humanities will make every science fiction fan at PSU squeal with glee on the weekend of October 15. On that weekend, they will hold a film festival consisting of a smorgasbord of legendary sci-fi films. More specifically, there will be films predicting how our world will go to Hell in a hand basket.
