It is with a heavy heart that I write of the passing of Alexia Barnett, one of Penn State's beloved THON children.
For any of those who have frequented frat row this past year, you may have become familiar with the mash-up beats of DJ White Noise, aka Mike McCourt.
This political science sophomore, and staff head of Jam 91, The Lion 90.7fm's hip hop show, has managed to garner Penn State cult fame status, and has even traveled on request to lay down the funk for parties at schools such as Bucknell University and Villanova University. In early April, he released his sixth album, WHITEOUT, sponsored by DirtyMexicanLemonade.com. In light of this recent release, I met up with White Noise to uncover the foundation and inspirations behind this "cut and paste" composer, and constructed a brief review of the album.
That's right everyone, tonight is Movin' On. It is the last "regular" Friday, the last weekend we will all spend here together this year, and possibly the last night we will get to roam the streets of this town like packs of beer-ravenous wolves and eat disturbingly large amounts of what may be petrified grease with our senior compadres.
Where did it all go? I have no idea. And it sucks.
Nonetheless, let's not make this a night of long faces and occasional tears, but one of merriment and celebration. Let's celebrate these friendships in the way we have always here in Happy Valley, and what better way to honor such a special night than with Movin' On? But who all is playing and at what time? Let's take a look.
You know those times when your friends are telling you a story about a party last night, or some other crazy incident, and one explains what happened, and then the other is like, “He/She is soooooo full of shit, this is what REALLY happened.” And then if there is a third, they chime in about how things really went down, and you just sit there, angrily confused because your friend’s are so damn incompetent, forcing you to pick who is most believable.
Well if you don’t, Penn State’s No Refund Theatre is offering you the opportunity to get a taste of what such a quandary may look like in their performance of “Life x 3.”
Why has Gucci Mane been arrested, again? Has Penn State rapper Greg Falatek stepped up his game as his sophomore mixtape prepares to drop? Who is better: Cee Lo Green or OFWGKTA's Frank Ocean? Choc full of more hip hop suggestions and news than any other Hump Day session, the space bros are sure to get your Blue & White weekend bumpin' with their killer list of jams.
This past Friday, after classes had ended, students once again retreated to the recesses of their dorms/apartments/houses, only emerging when it was time for a night of downtown debauchery. However, a small population of students forgoed an evening of couch surfin’ on some J. Shore, and spent some time at the Fifth Annual Penn State Arts Crawl.
