Hailing from Lebanon, PA, I am a senior majoring in print journalism. Things I enjoy include lovesacs, denim, mullets, Fight Milk, Jonny Moseley, and "hang in there" kitten posters. Things that bother me include "fun" sized candy bars (not fun), fish, shoobies, wet door knobs, baby leashes, and Jake Lloyd.

Beannachtaí na Fhéile Pádraig!

You may have noticed a man walking around campus in a funny outfit today, or in past years, playing the bagpipe. While this would be considered quite bizarre on 364 days of the year, today is Saint Patrick's Day, and nothing evokes that feisty Irish spirit like a jig-worthy bagpipe ditty.

Patrick Salmon, a junior majoring in Energy Engineering has sported this Gaelic outfit every St. Paddy's day for three years. Salmon is a member of the Irish Culture Society back in his hometown of Scranton, PA. Learn more about the student behind this act, and watch a video of him performing a song just for Onward State!

Penn State Reaching Out to Japan

As most of you are aware, this past Friday, Japan suffered a 9.0 magnitude earthquake and its trailing tsunami, one of the world's worst natural disasters ever recorded. With the death toll having reached over 2,000 and still climbing, and around 450,000 people living in shelters, you are probably asking yourself, "How can I, someone who lives in the middle of nowhere, Pennsylvania, possibly help?" Well, here's a list of events occurring throughout the week (and beyond) here at Penn State, at which you can donate money and help volunteer.

Penn State Rapper U Talks with OS

Over the course of this year, it seems that a large influx of rappers or hip hop collectives have been emerging from Penn State's ranks. One rapper, Ugochukwu Onyiata, or as he goes by, The 'U', has recently caught my attention. I witnessed this man spit his stuff on several occassions, including this past Friday, and he has yet to disappoint me. I booked a meeting with 'U' which went down as follows: we played Madden; listened to some new, unreleased tracks of his; watched Duke vs. Clemson; discussed Lil' Wayne; and then finally did the interview. Check it out after the jump.
