Natty Nittany: In Love with Fall Layers

With winter just around the corner at Penn State, we get to enjoy the wonderful three short weeks between shorts and sandals season and the advent of floor-length North Face parkas and Ugg boots, also known as autumn. Fall is my absolute favorite time of the year for fashion. You can’t just throw on some skimpy little thing and run around like the people who use their tan as clothing, and you can’t hide those pajama jeans you’re wearing under your full body snowsuit to survive the cold. For fall, you have to put it all out there with your best layers on top.

Sam Richards Gets Real

You may know Sam Richards from being one of the over 400,000 people who watched his "radical experiment in empathy" on TED. Or you may have heard of Sam Richards from the book "The Professors: The 101 Most Dangerous Academics in America" by the modern day right-wing McCarthyist, David Horowitz.

But each year some 725 students get to know Sam Richards as that eccentric SOC 119 professor who stands up on tables to deliver inspiring out-of-the-box perspectives on racial issues every Tuesday and Thursday in 100 Thomas. Learn more about the world-renown sociologist and race relations professor after the jump.

It's not about the money, money, money, or is it? Amid cries and outrage of the ever-increasing tuition rates, some students are unaware of the small fees that plague the student population which, in my opinion, or more heinous than any tuition increase. Onward State presents a list of "small" fees that can sneak up on a student. Check it out after the jump!

If You’re Not Going Canning This Weekend…

While many people go canning for the weekends, there are certainly plenty of things to do if you stay behind. This Friday Sam Adams is coming to the HUB along with other activities. Saturday there will be plenty of sporting events to choose from.

How Can I Help You?

The teaching assistant is a vital position in any Penn State course--they have the all-important but never-heralded task of writing exams, grading papers, and sending out information to their students.

When something goes wrong in the grade book or feedback on assignments is slow to get back to students, the TA catches the heat.

I understand that the sheer volume of tests and papers makes life difficult, but from my experience, there is no excuse for failing to understand and execute the simple tasks a TA needs to perform.
