Michio Kaku: In the Year 2100

In a magnanimous display of generosity, Penn State is providing not one, but two, world-renowned physicists to speak this year. On Thursday, theoretical physicist, author and futurist Michio Kaku will speak about “Future Science: Physics and Daily Life in the Year 2100.” (Spoiler: Still no jet packs.)

Slut Walk at Penn State: The Wrong Approach?

I’m a feminist, and I’m proud…there, I said it. Go ahead and cast your stones, but I don’t care what anyone says. I am proud of being a female, and I am especially proud of the accomplishments of the women who came before me: the women who overcame adversity, the women who stood up against inequality and were unfazed by the negativity and sexism standing in their way, threatening to stop them in their tracks. It isn’t just women’s rights I am interested in; I care about equality for all, and believe wholeheartedly in The Golden Rule. So, now that I made everyone aware that I am very interested in women’s rights, I would like to voice my opinion on the idea of having a “Slut Walk” at Penn State, which is currently being organized by a group of students via Facebook.

New Federal Policy Puts Student Aid in Jeopardy

It's a difficult economic time right now, to be sure, but it seems that higher education has had to bear more than its fair share as government looks to downsize its spending. Just months after state appropriations to universities suffered a major cut, a newly implemented regulation threatens to halt federal loans to students who require financial aid in order to pay for their college education. And if this news is a surprise to you, you're not alone. It came as a shock even to CCSG President Peter Khoury, who hadn't been aware of the new policy until last month's Faculty Senate meeting. But since then, he's become painfully aware of how many students might be affected by the change.
