Current UPUA Presidential Ticket Endorsements

David Adewumi and Christian Ragland-- this year's candidates for president of the University Park Undergraduate Association-- have been working hard over the past few weeks solidifying their platforms and reaching out to student leaders and organizations for endorsements.

With just about a week left until the election, both tickets have a handful of endorsements. Check them out after the jump.

DeChellis Starts On A New Journey….

... no, not THAT journey. While teams like Cornell and Northern Iowa are still playing for a championship for the 2009-2010 season, Penn State and men's basketball Coach Ed DeChellis have officially turned the page. The 2010-2011 season had its unofficial start yesterday with the first spring workout at the Bryce Jordan Center. After the fun was over, DeChellis held his first press conference of the year and talked about a variety of subjects.

Read on after the jump for highlights from the press conference.

Philharmonic Orchestra to Play Carnegie Hall

This evening, the Penn State Philharmonic will take the stage inside America's most prestigious concert hall, Carnegie Hall. The performance is the fourth in the President's Concert series put on by the Alumni Association and the School of Music. Past venues for the event have been Heinz Hall in Pittsburgh, the John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts in Washington, D.C., and the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia.

"We're all very excited to play at Carnegie Hall. There is no honor greater than being able to represent Penn State on of the world's prestigious stages," said percussionist Jamie Gunther.

Gerardo Edelstein, conductor of the Phil, said the difference in the caliber of venues between what the ensemble is used to performing in and Carnegie Hall is, "like eating gourmet food as opposed to fast food, or playing football in your backyard versus playing at Penn State's Beaver Stadium."

Tickets are still available for $15 from the Carnegie Hall box office if you'll be in New York City tonight.

UPUA Elections: UPUA Interns Staying Involved

This fall, the University Park Undergraduate Association (UPUA) created an internship program to get freshman students familiar with the politics and Robert's Rules of student government. It looks like the program was a success, as many freshman interns are currently looking to extend their involvement with UPUA by getting elected to a representative position.

UPUA Chief of Staff Matt Smith lead the interns in their weekly meetings and tried to teach them about the university in various ways, including exploring archives, studying how the faculty senate functions, and working with UPUA officials in various capacities.

HUB Preview of Senior Class Gift

Have you been to the HUB lately? If so, you’ve probably seen the boardwalk in the Pollock Road entrance. While that is not the class gift itself, it’s meant to excite people for what’s to come: the Marsh Meadow Boardwalk and Overlook at the Arboretum.

The Arboretum finally opened to the public this year, and the class of 2010 chose to present the University with a gift that reflects both their time here and has use in the future. Seniors have already pledges tens of thousands of dollars to fund the building of a boardwalk and overlook across the James J. and Lynn D. Ramage Marsh Meadow in the Arboretum.

If you’d like to keep up with the 2010 Senior Class Gift, check out their blog, their website, or even just walk through the HUB.

Stock Market Summer Camp

Penn State offers over 160 undergraduate majors - no doubt a daunting number. The average college student changes majors two or three times throughout their college career. I’d be willing to bet that many of you reading this haven’t declared a major yet or are unsure if the one you’re currently in is “the one.” Wouldn’t it have been nice to have been exposed to what a particular major entails before you took the $14,000 leap?

This coming July, Penn State’s Smeal College of Business is offering a “Stock Market Madness Camp: An Introduction to Trading and Analysis.” Read on for the full scoop on the program.
