Seven different skaters scored for the Nittany Lions in Thursday night's home-opening victory over American International at Pegula Ice Arena.

Penn State returns to Pegula Ice Arena for the first time since winning the Big Ten tournament with two games against American International.

"The goals that [Sturtz] scores are extremely important," head coach Guy Gadowsky said, "but more important than that is, when he's him, it incredibly uplifting to the entire team. When he's Sturtzy, the whole team gains 20 pounds."

"I've been the King of Belly Flops ever since I was a cub."

The Nittany Lions were most recently the AVCA Poll's No. 1 in November of 2015. After a 17-1 start to the season, Penn State jumped Florida for the top spot.

The lone Penn State goal was scored by redshirt freshman Abby Myers shortly after Maryland opened the scoring in the second half, but a winner in the extra periods pushed the Terrapins to victory.
