Penn State Lettermen Issue Statement; Criticize Emmert and NCAA

The Penn State Football Letterman's Club has released a statement this afternoon through club president Tim Sweeney (1989 graduate) and vice president Justin Kurpeikis (2001) graduate. They were critical of Mark Emmert's press conference and called his remarks "careless." Strong support for Bill O'Brien was also displayed. The full statement can be viewed below.

ESPN Obtains Spanier Letter to Board of Trustees

ESPN Outside the Lines obtained a letter sent by former Penn State President Graham Spanier to the Board of Trustees addressing his role in the failure to report Sandusky's abuse. In the letter, he blasts the Freeh report, and denies many of the claims contained in the report.

Governor Tom Corbett: “No taxpayer dollars will be used to pay fine”

Among several others, PA Governor Tom Corbett released a statement after the NCAA handed down severe sanctions to Penn State. He says that no taxdollars will be used as part of Penn State's $60 million fine.

Paterno Family Releases Statement on NCAA

Surprise, surprise. The Paterno family released a statement following the NCAA announcement of severe football sanctions against Penn State. The statement can be found here.

Board of Trustees Not Consulted in NCAA Decision

Lubrano told the Harrisburg Patriot-News that the Board of Trustees was not consulted about the agreement of sanctions with the NCAA. Penn State President Rodney Erickson signed the agreement, but according to Lubrano, it was a unilateral decision from his office -- an office that is supposed to report to the Board of Trustees in an official capacity.

Big Ten Presidents and Chancellors Release Statement

Following the severe sanctions announced by NCAA president Mark Emmert this morning, the Big Ten council of presidents and chancellors have released a statement. They supported the NCAA's decisions and also ruled that Penn State will be ineligible to receive its share of conference bowl revenue during the four year postseason ban. Instead, the money, which is projected to be $ 13 million, will go to charitable organizations that work to protect children. The full statement can be found below:
