Community Manager: How Should We Cover State Patty’s Day?

From reading the comments, though, it became clear (if it wasn't already clear) that there's a large rift in the State College community between the students who just want to have a day of drunken fun and the residents who don't want the town or themselves to be needlessly disturbed. I think it's important that we have an open, intelligent dialog about the issue, which is why I'm asking the following question:

What do you think should be done (if anything) about State Patty's Day, and how should Onward State be covering it?

Your Guide to New Year’s Eve in State College

Not heading to Tampa for the Outback Bowl? Nothing to do in your hometown for New Year's Eve? Or are you one of the many State College High School students turned Penn State undergraduates who have the distinct pleasure of remaining in Happy Valley virtually year-round?

Worry not, my friend. There is plenty to do this New Year's Eve in State College.

“Let There Be Light,” Said the Greeks

On December 7 (for those of you already befuddled from studying, we mean tonight), the Greek community will do what they do best. As part of the 2010 edition of the Holiday Lights Tour, fraternities will compete with each other over who has the best something for bragging rights. The “something,” in this case, is holiday decorations. It combines the spirit of the holiday season with practice for one-upping the neighbors' holiday trimmings, a valuable skill most of us will need later in life.

International Suit Up Day 2010, Why Not?

Thursday: National High Five Day

For Tom Pennella, a junior studying Business Management, this Thursday is the realization of three years of work making people aware of National High Five Day. For the past two years, Pennella has been running a free lemonade stand to recognize this day.

"I just paid for it out of my own pocket," Pennella said, adding, "It was just a fun thing to do."

This year, Pennella's lemonade stand is being sponsored by The LION Radio Station. Along with the free lemonade at the HUB lawn from 12-4 p.m., there will be a free drawing for two tickets to the Pitchfork Music Festival.

"I'm glad The LION is sponsoring it...because I'm broke," Pennella said.
