Penn State Football Wide Receiver Carmelo Taylor No Longer With Team

Update, 12:35 p.m.

A Penn State Athletics spokesperson told Onward State that while the program had no comment on Carmelo Taylor’s situation, he had been removed from the team’s roster.

Original story:

Penn State football wide receiver Carmelo Taylor is no longer with the team, according to Sean Fitz of On3. Taylor’s absence followed a slew of transfer portal entries on Thursday, though Taylor is reportedly not expected to enter the portal.

Taylor, a redshirt freshman, committed to Penn State as a 247Sports Composite four-star. Hailing from Roanoke, Virginia, Taylor appeared in two games during his true freshman season last year.

Taylor’s departure came after five Nittany Lions reportedly entered the transfer portal. Safety King Mack, running backs London Montgomery and David Kency Jr., wide receiver Malik McClain, and offensive lineman Golden Israel-Achumba are all set to leave the program.

A Penn State Athletics spokesperson did not immediately answer a request for comment on Taylor’s situation. Taylor is still listed on the Nittany Lions online roster.
