Is Penn State for Lovers?

Nittany Booking will be making its grand return to State College this February 17th with a show at SOZO featuring JT Woodruff of Hawthorne Heights.

The show will also feature post-punk duo The Story Changes, Mark Rose (formerly of Spitalfield), and two local groups: On The Run and British Phil.

Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and tickets will be only $10. Though you can get them at the door, they will be available in town at a TBA location in advance.

Whatever your opinions were of Hawthorne Heights back in high school, I recommend checking out the show. Five bands for $10 is a steal, and who knows, you may actually enjoy yourself.

This will be Garrett Bogden's first Nittany Booking show of the year, and hopefully it's not the last. If this one is a success, he says he has a few more potential shows lined up.

Keep checking Onward State for more concert updates and coverage.

Overheard on Twitter: March Madness?

Looking ahead to March Madness already? The semester just started! Also Jeffrey, you would have known about the bandwidth boost if you had read our post about it before break.

We Are Scientists to Play Free Concert in HUB

After much rumor and speculation, SOMA confirmed today that We Are Scientists will be playing in Alumni Hall on January. Best part about this top 40 charting duo coming to Penn State: the show will be FREE.

That's right kids, you won't even have to sell back your new textbooks to see them (along with openers British Phil and The Exclusive Document).

B&N College Bookstores Offer Rentals, But Not Here

After seeing textbook rentals become wildly popular with online services like Chegg, Barnes and Noble is trying to get in on the game. Since our official bookstore in the HUB is a Barnes and Noble-run bookstore, I was hoping that we'd get the chance to take advantage of the savings that come with textbook rentals.

Turns out we can't.

Of the around 25 participating Barnes and Noble University bookstores, Penn State is not on the list. Our rivals to the west, Ohio State, offering Barnes and Noble textbook rentals, as are those Gamecocks from down at South Carolina.

I'd imagine that Barnes and Noble will be looking to expand their textbook rental program to other schools. Given the fact that we're such a big school, it is likely our official B&N bookstore will be participating in the near future.

Riding the Coattails of Success

Ever say to yourself, "gee I wish the Penn State College Democrats had a blog!"? Well first off, I'm sorry that's what you are thinking about, and secondly, today is your lucky day.

Yes, it sounds like something out of a fairy tale, something too good to be true, but it's reality! This is what greets freedom lovers as they visit the brand-spanking new blog of the PSU College Democrats.

With general interest in politics dropping off after the 2008 election, and with the College Republicans luring in members with promises of food (and tax cuts), the College Democrats are looking to emulate the success of the Obama campaign. Since technology being a must-have weapon in any campaign or political organization, it seems only logical that the College Dems would try to spread the good word through the internet.
