President’s Open House at Old Main Today

Each year, Penn State President Graham Spanier opens up his stately looking office building to students and other curious visitors. With help from the Lion Ambassadors and some like-minded Penn State Performing Magicians, Spanier greets visitors in his office and waxes philosophical on the challenges Penn State faces as a huge state-related university system.

Ok, he doesn’t actually do that much of the latter, but there will at least be refreshments served. For a better idea of what the event is like, check out our post from last fall’s event.

American universities produce more research and relevant knowledge for the world at large than any other institutions I know of. Tuition may be too damn high, but over the long-run, undergraduate degrees are definitely worth the cost. But Penn State could be so much more. It used to be, I think.
