By Golly, Emerson Begolly’s Mom a PSU Professor

The strange story of Emerson Begolly continues to develop as information about him and his family comes to light.

Turns out that his mom is also a mechanical engineering professor at Penn State New Kensington, where Begolly had taken a few classes before he transitioned to being a World Campus student.

HUB Titles: Easy A

I want to welcome you, the Onward State-reading cats and kittens, to another wonderful semester of HUB Titles starring your favorite OS “writer.” For those out of the loop, I write about my experiences with the movies playing at the HUB every week. Check out SPA’s Web site for more details and show times. With that out of the way, it is time for me to do what I do best: force my opinions on others.

This week we have a movie about people not having sex. Actually, that isn’t entirely true. Hollywood would never allow such a foolish thing to make it onto film. And we as a movie-going public would walk out on that movie in droves. “Easy A” is all about sex, but then again it isn’t. It is a teen comedy that actually is worthy of your time. And almost as full of innuendo as this review.

Verizon 4G LTE Coming to State College by Fall

According to DroidLife.com, 4G LTE service will be brought to State College by Verizon sometime in the first half of 2011.

Now the iPhone 5 just needs to be 4G capable and we'll be one step closer to mobile computing nirvana.

Penn State Likely to Close STS Program in June ’12

Earlier this week the Science, Technology, and Society program was informed that the a strategic review council had recommended its closure. The decision is not final at this point, as it must first pass through Faculty Senate and the Board of Trustees, but with a stated intention of closing the program by June 2012, the university does not seem to think that it will be a problem.

Tenured faculty will be transferred to other units and Penn State will make an effort to treat other faculty fairly, but effectively speaking much of STS found out this week that they would probably be laid off in the near future.

Students who are currently enrolled in the STS minor will be able to graduate with it. I know this because I am one of them.
