A Field Guide to the Penn State Twitterati

If you haven’t noticed, we’re big fans of Twitter here at @OnwardState. For those of you who don’t tweet, though, it might seem like a confusing mess of @’s and #’s, follows and re-tweets. Here’s a guide to who of the Penn State Twitter community is worth following (in less than 140 characters).

@ANGELsucks – Want to know when you’re arbitrarily going to be unable to access ANGEL? This is the account for you.

@dailycollegian – The official account of everyone’s favorite student newspaper. They mostly link to their stories, and they are always working on an update.

@GoPSUSports1 – Penn State Athletics’ feed. You can find updates on all of Penn State’s sports teams.

@LAUSDeanLong – Christopher Long, Associate Dean for Undergraduate Studies for the College of Liberal Arts, tweets with students in his college.

@OldMainBell – Every hour – ding, ding & ding, ding! ding?

@SHCDean – Schreyer Honors College Dean Christian Brady has a feed full of interesting links, questions, and student interaction.

@StudentBodyPrez – Twitter account of Christian Ragland, this is one of the best ways to keep up-to-date with UPUA. He also has no days off.

This is far from a complete list. Those of you more avid tweeters, feel free to make more suggestions in the comments below.

UPDATE: Here’s some more names worth following, as suggested by our readers.

@ThisSquirrel – Enjoy getting IT info from a rodent? Follow this squirrel for Penn State/Tech related news.

@PalmerMuseum – Penn State’s best on campus art museum keeps you informed about museum and other arts events on campus.

@penn_state – While their choice of tweet topics has been questionable in the past, Penn State’s official twitter account is a great place to get general news about the University.

@TheLION907FM – A mix of music, pop culture and Penn State specific updates, the official account of the LION 90.7 FM is a must follow for fans of Penn State’s student run radio station.

@PennStateIFC – Greeks are a major part of our university, and the IFC keeps the community updated on their activities through their account.

@THON – As the biggest weekend for THON approaches, now is as good a time as any to follow the largest student-run philanthropy on twitter.

@SCNewsDesk – If you want info about what goes on in the town half of town-and-gown, StateCollege.com’s official account is your best bet.

Southern Kitsch and Sweet Tea at Cracker Barrel

After several months of anticipation, I was finally able to check out State College’s new Cracker Barrel on its opening day. Located at 215 Colonnade Blvd., there are few surprises at the chain’s new location. With rows of rocking chairs out front, checker boards and a game of peg solitaire at every table, I could have been at any franchise location in the country — not that that’s a bad thing.
