THON 101: OPPerations

Each year, THON weekend rolls around and the Bryce Jordan Center, or Rec Hall and the White Building in years past, is transformed from the normal, basketball stadium look into the magical place that is THON. Decked out in navy blue and zany hats, the OPPerations committee serves as the worker bees for this transformation.

THON 101: 24 Hour Loop Service

Keeping with one of the most useful recent THON traditions, CATA will be offering all-night LOOP service through this weekend. The service is sponsored by McLanahan’s and the Advisory Board Members of the Four Diamonds Fund. You can check out the schedule below. CATA also has a printable version available on its website.

Bands Playing During THON

While THON will be (for the most part) 46 back to back hours of music, one of the highlights are the live bands. This year's lineup is a good mix of THON veterans and newcomers. Check out the bands, and what you should know about them, after the jump.

Penn State Lady Lions Fall Out of Big Ten Race

The Penn State women’s basketball team suffered their seventh loss of the season on Thursday, losing to Ohio State 89-67. With the loss, Penn State drops to 21-7 overall and 10-4 in the Big Ten. The Lady Lions are technically still in the hunt for the regular season Big Ten title, but this would require Michigan State to lose their final three games and Penn State to win their last two. Barring this unlikely circumstance, the Lady Lions will most likely finish the regular season in second place.

Penn State's final two games are both at home. Next up for the Lady Lions is Purdue on Thursday at 7 p.m. In their first meeting of the season, Purdue won on their home court 79-69. Penn State has a strong home record, however, and will hope to finish the season with some momentum heading into the Big Ten Tournament.

Bubble Talk Resumes As Penn State Defeats Minnesota

With 10:41 left in the first half of Thursday night's game, Jeff Brooks was called for his second foul of the game and joined Andrew Jones, who picked up two quick ones not even two minutes into the game, on the bench. That's when Talor Battle put on his cape and saved the day, not to the surprise of anyone in the Bryce Jordan Center.

Battle tied a career-high with seven three-pointers, most of which came from at least 25 feet away, and scored 28 points to lead Penn State to a 66-63 win over Minnesota.

Why Do I THON?

In one day, about 30 hours from when this post will be published, I, along with 707 other brave souls, will stand up on the floor of the Bryce Jordan Center and not take a seat for another 46 hours. But why do I THON? Find out after the jump.
