PSU-OSU Rivalry Gets Bloody

PSU-OSU Blood Battle Blood Drive

Everyone knows about the PSU-MSU Blood Donor Challenge hosted every year by our Student Red Cross Club. Each fall, we have a competition against fellow land-grant school Michigan State to see who can collect the most units of blood, which is fun way to promote blood donation.

Well, this year, the SRCC has coordinated with students at Ohio State to create another blood-drive rivalry. The drive continues through April 29th.

SRCC President Rino Sato said the club always wanted a big event in the spring to match the fall’s MSU challenge, so their advisor contacted representatives at Ohio State, who were very interested.

“Yeah, we challenged them,” Sato said.

She thinks students will want to turn out for this because, let’s be honest, it’s fun to beat Ohio State at anything.

There will be free pizza and drinks for all participants, as well as 50 percent off coupons to Campus Candy. Participants will also be entered in a raffle to win prizes like a Nook or iPod Touch.

Update 4/9/11: Happy Valley Freeze will also be providing free frozen yogurt at the blood drive! Our apologies for omitting them in the original post.

We are currently trailing in units, so sign up on SRCC’s website if you want to beat those Buckeyes.

Switch the Right Decision

I’m probably the only person who has spent my entire college career almost evenly divided between working for The Daily Collegian and Onward State. I feel like this has given me a unique perspective on Penn State’s media scene. And I’ve learned a great deal from both media outlets.
