George Mason, Colgate, And Wright State Added To Non-Conference Basketball Schedule
It seems as though Penn State basketball is adding the final touches to its non-conference schedule, adding home games against George Mason, Colgate, and Wright State to the mix. Though a game against George Mason as part of a home-and-home has been reported since April, it was never confirmed.
While nobody within the program officially announced the games, all appear on the team’s schedule on GoPSUSports.com, the official website of Penn State athletics, under the header “Confirmed Games.” According to the schedule, Colgate will visit the BJC on November 23, Wright State on December 3, and George Mason on December 7. In addition to these three games, the spot where a game against Marist used to be, is now left as “TBD,” giving legs to the rumor that Albany will visit the BJC instead of Marist, after cancelling its game with Duke due to North Carolina’s controversial bill HB2.
None of these three additions will do much to bolster Penn State’s strength of schedule — George Mason, the best of them according to KenPom, finished ranked an unimpressive No. 198 in the country last year, about 50 spots lower than the Nittany Lions. However, with non-conference games against Duke, the early favorite to win the NCAA tournament, Pitt, St. Johns, and George Washington, a few games like these will likely be a good way for a young team to build confidence going into the conference season.
For those who just can’t wait for Penn State basketball, the schedule also shows a home exhibition game against nearby Lock Haven on November 4 at the BJC.
