Stacy Parks Miller’s Last Hurrah: DA Schedules Press Conference After Swearing In Of Successor

Centre County District Attorney Stacy Parks Miller announced Thursday she plans to hold a press conference at 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 29 in Bellefonte at the Courthouse Annex — after her successor, Bernie Cantorna, is slated to be sworn in as the new District Attorney at 9 a.m.

“At that time, the District Attorney will announce the results of the Grand Jury investigation, presentment, and recommended charges,” the media alert says. It doesn’t provide any additional information on what Grand Jury investigation the press conference pertains to.

At the District Attorney’s most recent press conference, she spent nearly two hours reiterating the situation surrounding Tim Piazza’s death and presenting new Grand Jury findings and recommendations about the overall culture of Penn State Greek life. The university largely refuted the Grand Jury’s claims, but had already adopted variations of many of the recommendations.

As Cantorna is slated to be sworn in Friday morning, the press conference is likely Parks Miller’s last hurrah at the post. Cantorna has already asked the Pennsylvania Attorney General to take over prosecution of the Beta Theta Pi case due to a supposed conflict of interest.

An earlier version of this post incorrectly stated Bernie Cantorna would be sworn in as District Attorney Friday afternoon. Cantorna will actually be sworn in at 9 a.m. Friday, and the post has been updated to reflect this. We apologize for this error.
