USA Fencing Names Penn State Coach Team Captain For Cadet And Junior World Championships

Penn State fencing head coach Wes Glon will lead the United States National Cadet and Junior World Championship Team after being named the team captain. The junior and cadet world championships will be held in Verona, Italy April 1-9.

The fifth-year head of the Nittany Lions program previously coached the United States national team for the Junior and Senior World Championships in 1989-1998, the Pan American Games in 1991, and the Olympic Teams in 1992 and 1996.

“It is always a great honor to represent the country in the international arena,” Glon said. “I look forward to leading the team to what we hope will be yet another successful year.”

Glon has spent 33 seasons in Happy Valley, mostly as an assistant coach under Emmanuil Kaidanov. Following the messy departure of the coach that led the program to 12 national titles, Glon added a 13th NCAA title in for the Nittany Lions — the winningest team in the NCAA Co-Ed Fencing Championships era.
