Penn State Football Players Unable To Participate In THON Program Saturday

Update 9:25 p.m.: Members of the team are still able to participate in Athlete Hour with THON children and the annual THON Pep Rally, but will not be present for the THON Explorers program, tour of the Lasch Building, or media availability opportunities.

Original story: Mark Emmert and the NCAA are back at it again. Penn State football was informed this afternoon that its student-athletes are not permitted to participate in the THON event at the Lasch Building, nor conduct any media interviews Saturday afternoon. The team traditionally holds competitions for THON children during Athlete Hour after a THON Explorers tour of the Lasch Building.

Although THON is a charitable activity event, it is still considered a team activity. The NCAA Time Management regulations require student-athletes to have a certain amount of time off, which means the football players will be unable to spend time with the THON families like they have in previous years.

Former Penn State players will still be able to participate in THON event at Lasch. Jesse James, Nate Stupar, Anthony Zettel, and Matt Zanellato, among other lettermen will be in attendance.

Other sports teams will still be a part of THON weekend. The athletes will compete in the pep rally Saturday night, showcasing their dance moves in hopes of winning the support of the dancers and crowd.
