UPUA Funds Test Prep Books, Commends New Biking Plans

The University Park Undergraduate Association met Wednesday night in the HUB to preview the new Student Affairs website, hear from LGBTQA Student Resource Center Director Brian Patchcoski, and pass two pieces of legislation.

Student Affairs Communications Manager Shea Bracken highlighted the new Student Affairs website, which is built around different themes and audiences. The website will also include a “Get Urgent Help” button for students in crisis to easily access a list of resources. LGBTQA Student Resource Center Director Brian Patchcoski discussed how the center is engaging with students across campus and looking forward to working with UPUA for Sexual Violence Awareness & Prevention Week.

President Katie Jordan discussed in her report that she and Vice President Alex Shockley will sit in on their final Board of Trustees committee meetings Thursday, and the various student government presidents will give their farewell addresses to the Board during their final meeting Friday. Here’s what former presidents Terry Ford and Kevin Horne discussed last year.

The assembly also passed two quick pieces of legislation. Bill 17-12 “Funding of Test Prep Week Booklets” allocates funding for UPUA to purchase and give out test prep books for the LSAT, FE, GRE, GMAT, and more. The bill passed unanimously.

Resolution 25-12 “UPUA Collaboration on Pennsylvania Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan” commends the efforts of CentreBike, a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating a safe biking environment in the State College area, in creating the Pennsylvania Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan with PennDOT. It also encourages creating a student seat on the Centre Region Bicycle Advisory Committee. The resolution passed unanimously.

The meeting adjourned at 9:13 p.m. Registration is open now for UPUA’s 13th Assembly elections; candidates should have attended an information session to be eligible to run.
