Penn State Hoops Gets Iced Up For NIT Title

It might just be the second biggest men’s college basketball tournament, the Nittany Lions are still getting some bling for conquering the NIT.

Members of 2017-18 Penn State men’s basketball squad — which went on an improbable run to take the NIT crown as a four seed — were given personalized championship rings on Tuesday. After a record breaking season that saw Penn State achieve its second-highest win total in program history, some fancy accouterments were deserved.

It also seems like non-player personnel were given rings as well, with administrators like Kirst Reily posting their excitement to social media and receiving the prestigious Coach Chambers retweet.

The celebration doesn’t stop at rings. Penn State will also raise a banner up to the Bryce Jordan Center rafters — joining other prestigious moments like its 2009 NIT Championship, 1954 Final Four run, and the plethora of Lady Lions NCAA Tournament appearances.Β

A banner-raising ceremony will commemorate the achievement prior to the team’s season opener on November 9 against North Florida.
