Bryan Culler To Be Appointed Next Student-Selected Trustee

Bryan Culler will be the next student-selected trustee to replace Mike Hoeschele, pending confirmation at tomorrow’s full Board of Trustees meeting at the Penn Stater. He was selected by a student committee of at-large members and student government leaders, led by Hoeschele.

Culler is a current freshman, former at-large representative, and current College of Engineering representative for the University Park Undergraduate Association. He’s also served as the public relations chair of the Engineering Undergraduate Council since September. He’ll serve a two-year term as a trustee.

The student-selected trustee seat was solidified in fall 2014 from controversial governance changes which allowed for a voting student trustee for the first time. Culler will be the third student-selected trustee, succeeding Hoeschele and Luke Metaxas.

Prior to the student-selected trustee being codified, the Pennsylvania governor had traditionally chosen a student as a governor-appointed trustee. This practice has not been renewed since then-graduate student Allie Goldstein served alongside Metaxas. Penn State’s student governments have continued to advocate for Governor Tom Wolf to appoint a student, but to no avail.

Congratulations to Culler on his appointment. We look forward to his work and representation in the coming years.
