New Penn State Sizzle Reel Reminds Us Who ‘We Are’

A lot went wrong on Saturday night when the Nittany Lions fell to the Ohio State Buckeyes…again.

However, if you tried to distract yourself during each commercial break, you may have caught Penn State’s newest commercial.

I don’t know about you, but this 30-second sizzle reel gave me chills and suddenly filled my heart with a whole lot of Penn State pride.

Hearing our Alma Mater over gratuitous shots of the cities and countrysides of Pennsylvania, from Philly to Pittsburgh, raised an empowering feeling. Sure, we may not all agree on the same gas station food chains or NFL teams. But we are all connected to this one Happy Valley that has given so much to us.

The “We Are Here For You” tagline that flashed across the screen is a good reminder that once we leave Penn State physically, we are never truly gone. We will enter a world where we are still surrounded by a support system of hundreds and thousands of alumni who will never let us fall.

Additionally, seeing those children running around reminded me so much of my childhood dream of coming to this university. It’s those children that we must unite to ensure we leave the best Penn State behind for them.

Most importantly, the new clip didn’t feature anything to do with Penn State football. After all, Penn State has far more to offer than its (admittedly great) athletics.

However, all over Twitter feeds we can see people getting WAY TOO wrapped up in Penn State football and it’s unfortunate start to the year. This commercial is a good reminder that we are not solely in State College and on campus for a football team.

Instead, we are here to gain an education on the world around us. We are here to grow as people and to become a better society. We are here to build the future, which, although it is terrifying, depends on us.

Be proud to be a Penn Stater. We Are…
