Penn State Women’s Volleyball Pauses Team Activities Due To COVID-19 Cases

Penn State women’s volleyball has paused its activities due to positive COVID-19 tests “among Tier 1 personnel,” the team announced Sunday.

The Nittany Lions have already postponed their match with Ohio State scheduled for Tuesday due to positive test results. Penn State’s other match with the Buckeyes scheduled for Sunday, January 31 has also now been postponed.

Penn State added it will work with the Big Ten to identify rescheduling options and potentially make up matches later in the season.

“The health and safety of our student-athletes, coaches, staff and the broader community are of the utmost importance,” Penn State Athletics said. “Therefore, as part of the protocols established by the Big Ten Conference and Penn State Athletics medical staff and in consultation with University, local and national officials and guidelines, individuals with a positive test have been put into isolation.”

The Nittany Lions’ season-opening series with Michigan, which was scheduled for January 22 and 23, was postponed on Thursday. The team didn’t confirm it at the time, but it seems those matches also fell through due to COVID-19 concerns.

With the Ohio State and Michigan series postponed, Penn State’s next match on the schedule is currently against Illinois on Friday, February 5, at Rec Hall.
